Flavonoids like Quercetin are back into mainstream News again. This time, thanks to popular TV host Dr Helmet Oz. In his latest show, Dr. Oz spoken & introduced ‘myricetin’, a plant based flavonoid.
Quercetin Dihydrate is the strongest of all flavonoids if it’s about how good it works against cancer. It’s the most potent. Unfortunately Quercetin does not dissolve well in water. Vitamin C helps against this. This is why if you want to use Quercetin against cancer, you should always dissolve it in Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid).
What is Flavonoids?
Flavonoids are compounds from fruits and vegetables. These compounds cause fruits to have a nice color. Strawberries are red because it contains a flavonoid. Blackberries are ‘black’ because of ‘flavonoid!’. Others like Cranberry, Acaiberry, and Raspberry also contains flavonoid.

Quercetin is found in many berries
Scientists are interested in flavonoids, because they have many (health improving) abilities. Flavonoids are antioxidants too. They can also protect against radiation. Flavonoids can also work against cancer. Has anyone ever told you that fruits and vegetables are healthy? It’s because of the flavonoids.
A very important flavonoid is Quercetin. This flavonoid is present in almost all fruits and vegetables.
Other popular flavonoids are,
- Myricetin: found in fruits, vegetables, nuts, and berries (the one shown on Dr OZ show)
- Hesperidin: Mainly found in the stems of citrus fruits like lemon & oranges
- Cobalamin: a component from Vitamin B-12, sourced from meat, egg, poultry, and dairy
- Lecithin: Mostly found in soybean & egg yolk
- Pycnogenol: Extracted from the bark of maritime pine tree.
- Glutathione: Is an antioxidant found in plant, animal meat, fungi, and bacterias
- eveing primrose oil: made from the seeds of aromatic flowers
- Cromolyn sodium:
- buckwheat tea: the aromatic compound of buckwhet
What makes Quercetin so special?
The naturally occuring flavonoid Quercetin, that comes from fruits and vegetables, kills cancer cells while leaving healthy cells unharmed. It even protects healthy cells and keeps them healthy. Killing cancer cells eradicates tumors (tumors consists of cancer cells).
How this is done?
It should also be mentioned that Quercetin is useful for cancer prevention. For example it can prevent cancer from reoccuring or prevent cancer from starting.
How it works?
Quercetin is an antioxidant. It neutralizes free radicals. While doing so this quercetin changes to a radical molecule. For example it neutralizes 4 radical molecules and becomes a radical molecule with 4 radicals.
Then it sticks to DNA (covalent binding). Because there is no water present there, it stays a radical molecule.
When a cell divides, water nears this molecule so it reacts with water causing OH radicals killing the cell.
Normal cells always repair their entire DNA before cell division, so the radical flavonoid molecule is removed. So normal cells stay unharmed.
Cancer cells divide before they have repaired their entire DNA, so they die.
So it’s actually a anti-cancer bomb.
A flavonoid molecule is like a bomb that explodes if it’s not removed before a cell tries to divide. Cancer cells that divide before reparation die, because the bomb isn’t removed, so it explodes when the cell tries to divide. Normal cells that divide after reparation remove the bomb so they live.
Cancer cells that completely repair their DNA before cell division aren’t cancer cells anymore (they are normal cells) because they have to wait a long time before cell division.
Normal cells that did not completely repair their DNA before cell division can pass a mutation down to daughter cells.
3 ways of working mechanism
- Normal cell -> completely repaired -> flavonoid bomb removed -> cell divides normal
- Cancer cell -> not completely repaired -> flavonoid bomb detonates -> cell killed while it was dividing.
- Cancer cell that completely repaired = normal cell.
Precauton & warning!
Alternative treatments are treatments that have not been (completely) proven. Conventional treatments are proven using human clinical trials, demonstrating their efficiency. Because alternative treatments aren’t proven, and there are no guarantees that they work.
The treatment on this website has not been proven in human clinical trails and is therefore an alternative treatment. There is no guarantee this treatment will work.
Skipping conventional treatments that are proven effective can lead to untreated cancer which can in turn lead to death. Therefore you cannot replace conventional treatments with this alternative treatment or other alternative treatments. We urge you never to skip conventional treatments and to use alternative treatments only as an addition to conventional proven treatments.
Where to buy
You can buy Quercetin and Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) from vitamin stores and from the internet shops.
Fruits and vegetables contain only minimum amounts of Quercetin, while supplements contain high amounts of Quercetin. Therefore only supplements are expected to be effective against cancer. However, please continue eating raw fruits and vegetables. Your grandma was never wrong!
Instructions
To make optimal use of Quercetin you should follow these instructions:
Take a half liter of water in a bottle. Add 500 mg Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid) and wait until it’s well dissolved. Open a capsule containing Quercetin (500 mg) and sprinkle the entire content in this water. Shake well. If all goes well you will see a yellow solution. Now you are done. The mix is ready for consumption.
You can repeat this every 12 hours. Later you can take a higher dosage such as 1000 mg Quercetin with 1000 mg Vitamin C. You can also use double the amount of Vitamin C such as 2000 mg Vitamin C and 1000 mg Quercetin. Or use 2000 mg Vitamin C and 500 mg Quercetin. The maximum dosage is 3000 mg Quercetin and 3000 mg Vitamin C taken every 12 hours (=6000 mg a day/ 24 hours).
Only use ascorbic acid and not any modified Vitamin C such as sodium ascorbate or it may not work. The Quercetin should preferentially be powder form. Do not use granulated Quercetin, because it does not dissolve well. If Natrol, NSI or Twinlab Quercetin + C is used, that already has Vitamin C added, no additional Vitamin C is needed.
Safety Warning
If you choose to use Quercetin with ascorbic acid (Vitamin C), you should always discuss this with your doctor. There could be interactions with other medications. You should always use supplements under guidance of a doctor. If there are any side effects, you should always report that to your doctor.
It’s also wise to start with a low dosage, since we do not know the best dosage. For example start with 100 mg Quercetin a day and slowly build up to 500 mg Quercetin a day for example.
You should also be informed that there is no guarantee that this compound will work, so you can’t replace conventional medications with this supplement.
A way to make Quercetin more potent?
According to some theory flavonoids such as Quercetin actually work on free radicals. They are fueled on free radicals. So, if we provide flavonoids with more free radicals they can kill more cancer cells. This is what makes it a good idea to combine flavonoids with free radical generating methods. For example, radiation is converted to free radicals, so if this therapy is combined with radiation therapy it would be more effective.
Physical exercise can also increase the bodies free radical production. So if this mix is consumed regularly while exercising it may work even better. Or might adding a little-bit of H2O2 to the mix work?
